Gibb's Farm is an oasis of green, calm and beauty, in a landscape that can often be parched, dry and dusty.

Gibbs Farm has 20 twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms set among the gardens. The main facilities, consisting of a sitting room, reading room, dining room (which serves fresh, home-cooked meals), bar and gift shop, are situated in the old farmhouse.

Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on our farm, and a vast ten-acre fruit and organic vegetable garden provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views.

We provide a welcome stop on any safari, and a base from which to enjoy the many activities available in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater. Even if your stay is short, find time for a gentle walk or tour of our gardens.

Here, at the entrance to the Highlands, midway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, five kilometres from the village of Karatu, is Gibb's Farm.

Gibb's Farm lies at the heart of Africa's Great Rift Valley and thus some of the continent's most spectacular haunts. Actual kilometres have little bearing on the time it takes to travel from A to B; so we have given you the time for direct driving, without stopping to game view along the way.

International flights arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, which is a short 45 minute drive from the town of Arusha. From here you can transfer to the Farm with a scenic drive, or fly to Lake Manyara, where we will meet you with our private vehicles. These times have been updated in 2004 to mark the opening of the new tarmac road through Karatu. Soon it will be tarmac all the way from Arusha to the Ngororongoro Crater gate.

The Lodge offers 20 twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms, set among the gardens. In the last few years we have built new rooms. Two are linked making them ideal for families. All our rooms retain the charm of their unique garden setting.

The main facilities, consisting of a sitting room, reading room, dining room, bar and gift shop, are situated in the old farmhouse. In cooler evenings, relax by the fireside, but most of the time you will want to be outside, enjoying the gardens, the view or the night sky. When you are ready, come in for dinner.

Irish Bar - After a tiring day on safari it is not only the animals of the serengeti that need a choice watering hole to relax!! Designed by Irishman Rory Egan and thatched by the local masai, The Irish Bar, provides our guests with a uniquely charming venue to put their feet up and catch up on the day's safari adventures. Sip an Irish whiskey or a Guinness by the old stone fireplace or relax in a wicker chair on our cool outside terrace.

Waterfall Walk - The lodge guests can walk to the top of a nearby waterfall and see caves made by elephants. This guided walk takes about 2 or 2.5 hours and winds its way in and out of the forest highlands with breathtaking vistas; you will often see wildlife and always a multitude of birds.

Birding - There are over 200 different species of birds at Gibb's Farm. If you are an avid birder we will schedule a personal bird walk with one of our naturalists or you can simply spend the day on your own checking off your life list.

Gibb's Farm is Eco-Friendly - Ninety five percent of all of the vegetables and many of fruits served at Gibb's Farm are grown in the organic vegetable garden. Their farmyard produces all of the pork and milk served at Gibb's and supplies them with all the organic compost they need.
