The KTL is set high on the edge of the Great Rift Valley (western arm) overlooking the lake Manyara, Volcanic Mountains (Losimongori, Monduli, and) Meru on the south, on the south, and Ngorongoro crater highlands on the north.
In this area the great cares is taken not cut any tree or do any habitat destruction.
The Acacia comifora wooded bush land attracts about 334 different species of birds including Lake Manyara birds. The well maintained environment attracts diversity species of birds to reside and breed around this area, yet some of the Palearctic and Intra-African migrants have been observed breeding around KTL.
Other Activities that can be organised at the lodge are:
- Maasai guided ethno - botanical walks
- Horse riding - 1 hour up to 4 days (including fly camps)
- Mountain biking (half day trips)
- Day treks / hikes
- Fly camping in forests on special request
