The Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is built onto the rim of this amazing natural phenomenon, a stunning plant and local creeper covered stone lodge where guests co-exist in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment and wildlife. Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, close to some of the earliest dwellings of man in Olduvai Gorge, has taken their cave paintings as inspiration. It is built of stones and boulders and is literally hidden in the vegetation of the crater’s rim, disappearing completely from view from the crater’s floor.
The interiors are filled with exquisite wooden furniture and African artefacts, and stunning frescoes adorn the walls of many rooms and public areas. All bedrooms have private terraces with uninterrupted views across the grasslands, forests, lakes and rivers that make up the crater floor.
The hotel has 75 rooms. Activities include game drives through the crater where you will see a microcosm of Africa in one day, bush walks, picnic lunches, excursions to the nearby Oldavai Gorge, the ‘birthplace of mankind’ and a variety of cultural events.

The Lodge is built into the rim of the Ngorongoro dormant volcano, into which you descend on daily game drives to see the animals. It is also close to the Olduvai Gorge - 'Birthplace of Mankind', where evidence of early man have been found.
Strung around the crater rim, each with its own rock-enclosed balcony, the rooms feature brass lamps, embossed leather headboards, wildwood mirrors, Maasai carvings and flamboyant prehistoric wall motifs depicting fleeing giraffes, stylised gazelle and plunging buffalo. Each room draws on a cave-grey, indigo-blue and jasper-red colour-scheme, is fully air-conditioned and enjoys uninterrupted views over the Crater's unmatched splendour.

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the Tanzania's most visited game areas, as the animals are almost trapped in the base of the collapsed volcano. There are various activities that take place on a daily basis from the lodge like hiking and nature walk.
