Completing the Northern Tanzania safari circuit the lodge, built as a 'low profile' structure, nestles into a wooded hillside valley overlooking Tarangire Hill. Situated 120km (75 miles) from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is easily accessible and boasts magnificent herds of elephant and other species of wildlife. The baobab studded landscape also plays host to a vast variety of resident and migratory bird life. Looking out over the rolling countryside the lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 2,600 sq kms (900 sq miles) of National Park. The Tarangire flows north to south year-round and sustains an abundance of fauna and flora rarely seenelsewhere.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge is located on the eastern side of the Tarangire river opposite Tarangire Hill and close to Kuro ranger post in Tarangire National Park in Northern Tanzania.Tarangire National Park is situated 114 kms south of Arusha and is one of Tanzania’s most easily accessible game parks, being approximately one hour’s easy drive from Arusha. The park, though not as well known as the famous parks of Serengeti or Ngorongoro is now becoming recognised as an area of remarkable beauty and rewarding game viewing. Covering 2600 sq kms and surrounded by ‘game controlled areas’ it is on the traditional migration route of several species of wildlife and is home to 3500 resident elephant.

Tarangire National Park is 114kms south of Arusha by tarmac road.Tarangire Sopa Lodge is 30 kms from the main park entrance, about one hour of game driving through the park. The flight from Arusha to Tarangire air strip or Koru air strip is about 20mins

followed by a 30 minute drive to the lodge.

Opened in 1995, the lodge can accommodate 160 guests in 75 suites, each enjoying wall-to-wall carpeting, a private lounge with a mini bar, a bedroom with two queen size beds and ample room for a third, an en-suite bathroom with shaver sockets and a hair dryer, and a private verandah which offers stunning views over the baobab studded landscape.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge, opened in January 1995, is an all-suite lodge having 75 suites in total all enjoying extensive views and game viewing possibilities. Each suite is fully carpeted and contains two queen-sized beds with deep sprung mattresses.

The fully tiled bathrooms are equipped to a very high standard with walk in showers, W.C., bidets, wash hand basins, hair driers and shaver sockets. Each suite has floor to ceiling sliding doors which open on to a private balcony or verandah. A small comfortably furnished lounge provides extra privacy to each suite and mini-bars are available on request.

 

The lodge has direct-dial satelite telephone facilities as well as satellite television and wildlife-video-film options. A number of lodge electrical generating systems provide 240volts, 50 cycles 24 hours a day. Our water supply comes from nearby springs but guests are advised not to drink from the taps. Instead, complimentary bottled mineral water is provided in the mini bars while further stocks are available for sale in the main bar. We welcome kids of all ages and can provide both special meals at convenient times and baby sitters on request. The Guest Shop stocks a wide selection of curios, gift items, clothing, film, sweets, postcards, personal requisites and toiletries. The unique swimming pool which is located at the edge of a rocky gorge has its own bar and snack kitchen and offers a refreshing interlude between game drives. We can supply diesel and can carry out most minor repairs.

Electricity : The lodge has a number of generators which provide electric current to the lodge. The current is 240volts 50 cycles.

Water : Water is obtained for lodge usage from two bore holes situated close to the lodge. Guests are advised not to drink the water from the tap. Bottled water is provided in each suite and additional supplies are available for sale in the lodge.

Children : Sopa Lodges welcome children to all their properties and can arrange for special childrens meals of a type and at a time most suitable to the individual. Baby sitters can be arranged on request.

Guest Shop : In the main lobby is a guest shop stocking a wide selection of curios, gift items, safari clothing, film and a variety of guest requisites.

Clothes : For most of the year only the lightest of safari clothes will be required, although during the rainy seasons or in the early

mornings and evenings a light sweater may be required. The main lodge areas of cocktail bar and restaurant have an atmosphere which may encourage guests to wear something special for the evening. Swimwear and sunbathing clothes are a must for relaxing around the pool.

Swimming Pool : Tarangire Sopa Lodge has a large imaginatively designed pool with an island, bar and barbecue area. Most guests will be unable to resist a cooling dip in the afternoon before a game drive.

The park is host to a number of rarely seen species of wildlife including eleand, oryx, kudu and gerenuk. Another speciality are tree climbing pythons and some 3,500 resident elephants. Tarangire also has the highest number of recorded bird species for any habitat in the world.

Conferences : A 3000 sq ft conference facility is available for conferences, meetings, presentations, private lunches or dinners and cocktail parties. Situated just off the main lobby it looks on to the many baobab trees which are a feature of the lodge site.
