Nestled between the Indian Ocean and the Saadani bush in an old coconut plantation, the 8 tented bandas are elegantly perched on stilts individually spaced out along the pristine beach. All the uniquely styled beachfront bandas offer total privacy, are fully en suite and have large balconies overlooking the azure sea. Emphasis is on relaxation and appreciation of the natural environment with a variety of activities offered from the lodge.

Each banda makes use of natural products with driftwood and coconut fibres adorning the rooms and interior materials have been designed along specific Saadani themes.

A Tent with a View Safari Lodge is located on the northern boundary of Saadani National Park in the Mkwaja region, East Africa's only coastal preserve and the latest gazetted National Park in Tanzania. Saadani is Tanzania's only coastal reserve and offers the chance to see fantastic birdlife and big game interacting with the sea.

Half day game drives, foot safaris, an incredible boat safari, and a cultural visit to one of the oldest Swahili villages in East Africa are organized at the lodge. Offshore islands offer snorkelling in clear waters with a diversity of corals and marine life. The new lodge consists of just 8 beachfront tented bandas elegantly perched on stilts overlooking the Indian Ocean. Emphasis is on exclusivity and privacy in a unique natural environment.

Located on the Mkwaja coastline, just outside the north-east boundary of the newly gazetted Saadani National Park, A Tent with a View Safari Lodge offers a peaceful retreat from which to explore Tanzania's only coastal wildlife reserve.

The spacious restaurant and bar is also elevated on stilts overlooking the sea. Freshly caught seafood is a speciality and combined with an extensive wine list you are assured of a memorable dining experience.

Walking Safaris : Walking safaris from the lodge are extremely rewarding and highlight the variety of game which lives in close proximity to the beach.Different routes follow dry sand river beds where the spoor can be easily identified and elephant trails through the bush. Emerging onto a white sand beach after tracking big game is a surreal experience.

Night walks from the lodge offer exciting encounters with creatures great and small not usually seen in the daytime. We also keep a canoe on the Mafue river which offers fantastic and relaxed birdwatching and we often combine a canoe trip with walking safaris, however this is limited to 2 people.

Boat safaris : A boat safari on the Wami river is a highlight of any visit to Saadani. We combine this as part of a full day game drive and usually have lunch on the banks of the Wami. The river is home to large crocodiles and many hippo which at low tide can be seen on the sand banks. There is a profusion of both coastal and riverine birdlife and the boat safari provides the ideal insight for observing this diversity of species, it is not uncommon to see 5 types of kingfisher on the boat safari. Black and white colobus monkeys are often seen frolicking in the trees beside the river. On the drive to the Wami we pass a salt works and flocks of flamingoes are commonly seen here.

Game Drives : Due to the limited number of routes in Saadani, we mainly concentrate on half day game drives. The north Mkwaja region has several dams and is the main habitat for Saadani's small elephant population and we leave camp before dawn for these 'elephant safaris'. The rolling hills of south Mkwaja offer some of Saadani's most stunning landscapes and are productive for a variety of plains game and ungulates. This is also where you are most likely to find the endangered Roosevelt's sable antelope.

The game drive to the Wami river and through the southern section of Saadani offers different scenery and is home to large populations of giraffe and several antelope species. On request we can stop en route in Saadani village which is one of the oldest settlements on the Swahili coast. The old fort and graveyard bear testimony to this history and it is also possible to visit the school and see the fishermen at work.
