This untouched, uninhabited area, is home to the biggest herds of elephants and wildlife anywhere in the world. Selous Impala Camp is a truly beautiful camp located on the banks of the Rufiji River with a spectacular view of the forest beyond.

Selous Impala camp is set amidst Borassus aethiopum palms and Tamarind trees and provides superb comfort, wonderful wildife and dining under the stars beside the rippling Rufiji river.

There is a large and comfortable thatched low-slung building with wide verandahs where there is a relaxed open plan area with a well stocked bar, dining room and plenty of planters' chairs and sofas so that the guests can scan the river and banks for game, drink in hand.

 

Selous Impala Camp is a half hour game drive from Mtemere Airstrip. It lies between the Rufiji River Camp and the Selous Safari Camp, on the banks of the mighty Rufiji River.

 

There are just seven luxury tents set on high wooden decking with magnificent views of the river and of the forest beyond. They are beautifully furnished with colonial period furniture, which has the effect of transporting the guest into past eras of exploration and adventure.

Each tent has a dressing room and an en-suite bathroom with porcelain basins and there is a double zipped entrance to keep out insects, and roll down canvas on the windows.

There is a family tent - which is really two separate tents on the same decking. Each has its own bathroom.

The tents are spread over a large area, ensuring maximum privacy; each tent has its own veranda overlooking the Rufiji.Maasai askaris guide visitors to and from their tents at night, or if there are animals around.

Excursions : The large meandering Rufiji with its network of channels, connecting lakes and lagoons offers visitors the unique opportunity to go on safari by boat and experience the spectacular concentration of wildlife from an unusual perspective, especially during the dry season when animals congregate. Game drives and walking excursions are also very rewarding. There are over 300 species of birds in the Selous and these are amazingly visible especially while out walking or boating.This is definitely twitcher country! Fly camping is available.

Selous Impala has skilled and knowledgeable guides who will lead the game drives, boat trips, walking excursions and fly camping. Nearby is a sheltered, crystal clear blue swimming pool, just the thing after returning from a game drive in the heat of the day, or to enjoy a sundowner and bathe in the evening.
