Rhotia Valley Tented Camp is built with indigenous hardwood and in traditional African style. It is in complete harmony with its surroundings. Yet, its spacious set up, personal and friendly service and its finishing touches, such as cosy sofas around the fireplace and warm decorative details, provide a perfectly balanced luxury.
With only fifteen individual tents, Rhotia Valley has an intimate charm. Each of the comfortable tented houses has its own veranda with splendid view. The bathroom is with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet.
Our veranda bar is fully stocked. In the open dining area, wonderful meals are served at your table. Of course any dietary wishes can be taken into account. Rhotia Valley’s experienced chefs use the very best and only fresh products. Most of the vegetables and all herbs are grown in our own vegetable garden.
Enjoy uninterrupted views of spectacular African sunsets. In the morning the sunrise over Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. Accommodation at Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is ideally positioned to offer the most discerning traveler a taste of Tanzania at its best. Just being here will arouse a feeling of intense happiness – here you can relax and enjoy. Breathe in the crisp morning mountain air. Swim in the warm afternoon sunshine in our new guest pool. Here, due to the high altitude, there are no mosquitoes to interrupt your quiet evenings.
Safari
Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is the perfect base from which you can go on daytime safaris. It is centrally located between the nearby major National Parks in Northern Tanzania. Equipped with a rich and delicious lunchbox – lovingly prepared by our kitchen staff – you can have your picnic lunch at Lake Manyara, Lake Eyasi, Tarangire or Ngorongoro Crater.
And of course you can make longer trips, for instance to the Serengeti or to another highlight: the Empakaai Crater in the northern Ngorongoro. And return to Rhotia Valley after a few days. We love to hear your stories!
Relax
If you like to relax a little – a break from driving on bumpy African roads and away from the tourist bustle – why not consider a day or two at the lodge itself? Many guests plan an extra day at Rhotia Valley just to be there, to relax, read, swimming in the infinity pool, snooze on the lazy deckchairs… or to make a pleasant stroll to the river or through the local village. Don’t be surprised to be invited by a farmer to drink a cup of tea with his family!
Guided cultural walk
Walking from the lodge to Rhotia village accompanied by a local guide is also a wonderful experience! Our guide will give you an insight into local customs and traditions, family and farm life, and a chance to see Africa in a more relaxed and adjusted pace than hunting the Big Five. This walk is only possible in the morning due to the high temperature in the afternoon and availability of the guides.
Mountainbike
The local area is perfect for mountain biking. Explore Tanzania on a bike and you will discover a new world. Taste the Tanzanian way of life, be greeted by enthusiastic children welcoming the Mzungu.
The village Mto Wa Mbu, 30 minutes driving from the lodge, is perfect to explore the village life, the banana plantations and the shore of lake Manyara. Feel the wind, see the zebras, hear the sound of the gnoes. Biking is a whole different experience than sitting in a car.
